"One thing my mother never knew, and would disapprove of most of all, was that I watched the Garretts. All the time."

The Garretts are everything the Reeds are not. Loud, messy, affectionate. And every day from her rooftop perch, Samantha Reed wishes she was one of them . . . until one summer evening, Jase Garrett climbs up next to her and changes everything.

As the two fall fiercely for each other, stumbling through the awkwardness and awesomeness of first love, Jase's family embraces Samantha - even as she keeps him a secret from her own. Then something unthinkable happens, and the bottom drops out of Samantha's world. She's suddenly faced with an impossible decision. Which perfect family will save her? Or is it time she saved herself?

A transporting debut about family, friendship, first romance, and how to be true to one person you love without betraying another. (Goodreads)
I loved this book! It was just so cute! I liked the majority of the characters, including Sam, our main character. I was not a fan of Clay, every time he spoke in this book it made me cringe!! I thought Jase made a great love interest to the story, even though he seemed almost perfect, he also seemed believable. This book dealt with some really deep issues throughout and I liked that it was more than just your average fluffy romance. I thought the family aspects of the book were even better than the love. The Garrets are my new favourite book family, I mean how awesome was George?!? This book covered everything from politics, to family love/drama, relationships of all kinds, drugs, poor decisions and happy times. It was really well rounded. I also loved the character development, especially with Tim, it was great.

My only issue with this book was that I found it a bit long and slow in some parts, but it really didn't take away from the story. I still have a few questions regarding the friendship between Nan and Sam also.

Overall I really enjoyed this book, definitely a good summertime contemporary read! I am looking forward to reading the companion novel!

Every time Clay spoke... I was like...

Every scene with Sam and Jase!!
